Tuesday, May 23
The Dakota Column makes a shorter march to Young Man’s Butte, setting up camp in an area with abundant freshwater, firewood and forage before continuing west toward the badlands.
Monday, May 22
The Dakota Columns makes excellent time despite a wagon mishap, while the Montana Column holds its position along the Yellowstone without incident.
Sunday, May 21
As the weather finaly begins to clear for the Dakota Column, the Montana Column has confirmed contact with Sioux on the southern side of the Yellowstone, bracing for an attack on the morning of the 22nd.
Saturday, May 20
Foul weather slows the advance of both the Dakota and Montana Columns, while a small skirmish erupts near the Rosebud with Crow scouts under Gibbon’s command as they Lakota in the area.
Friday, May 19
Sitting Bull and his band reach the Rosebud Creek, while the Federal advance continues, as Gibbon tries and fails to cross the Yellowstone River, instead setting into a holding pattern to contain the hostiles and prevent their escape toward Canada.
Thursday, May 18
The Dakota Column makes its second day’s march, with Libbie Custer taking her leave and returning to Fort Abraham Lincoln. Meanwhile, General Crook arrives at Fort Fetterman to prepare for the final departure of his own Wyoming Column.
Wednesday, May 17
The Dakota Column sets out from its base at Fort Abraham Lincoln in the Dakota Territory.
